Hi! I’m Kate (she/they)
I’m looking for my next remote role in product UX. I’m at my best when I’m discovering and meeting user needs, understanding and solving the root causes of problems, and making product experiences easier to use.
With my background in content design and strategic communications, I’d be especially useful in:
- A growth or onboarding context helping your users discover the value of your product faster.
- Product areas with a lot of complexity to untangle and simplify for users like authentication.
- Ambiguous platform contexts with a heavy language component like information architecture and navigation.
I excel at cross-functional collaboration no matter my role, and I even have a talk I love to give about my approach to collaboration called “How to have awkward conversations.”
Things I love:
- Authenticity and compassion.
- Turkey vultures and great blue herons.
- Wool blankets and wood fires.
- Genre fiction and vintage illustrated children’s books.
- Asking hard questions and working together to find the answers.
Award-winning designer
I’ve been a content designer and ux writer since before we had those terms. The way I approach my work always goes beyond the words to include the structure, visual hierarchy, user flows and interactions.
I’m driven by a combination of relentless curiosity and deep empathy for users, always aiming to make it easier for people to do the things they need to do – whether that’s understanding and applying for government benefits, buying insurance, or signing in to a website.
The highlight of my career was helping design COVID Alert, Canada’s national exposure notification app, which set a new bar for clarity and also visual design and freshness in government apps. Could my next career highlight be with you?
