plain language training

In early 2014, my team had had enough staff turnover since our initial training in 2008 and we needed a refresh on plain language. So I created a training session that was deep enough to engage those who attended the 2008 training and starting with enough basics to bring along the people who didn’t. Here is the slide deck I used, with the corporate branding and internal examples removed. I followed up this session with 1:1 coaching sessions on a document of their choosing.

Quotes from attendees

“I am a better writer because of the time I got to work with Kate. Anyone who gets this experience will be better for it.”

“Kate was a formative influence in my development as a communications professional. When a new assignment would come in, I would often think to myself, “what would Kate do?” She always seemed to have a vision for whatever project she worked on, and she genuinely cared about the audience. She was also my first real exposure to plain language, and I’ve carried that with me throughout my career.”
